Performed valve adjustment procedure on both bikes yesterday. Very easy to do. Neither one was severely out of adjustment. We took the bikes on a 40 mile trip last night to check them out and they performed flawlessly.

Anyone, help my 40 day old M1,Jailing wont go in to 3rd ,or 4th gear,my timing is off or out,,1st and 2nd gear go but 2nd reves up high like to shift into 3rd, but then when I do ,power loss, boggs down, and will not hold, only does so when Im hauling down a big hill at 40MPH cause of gravity. This makes me soooo mad,its brand new!!!!!! They (RC) wont help at all. carb is totally clean,Im afraid i am gonna rattle every thing loose!.What about valves? Ive never ridden this bike in 4th cause there is NO power to do it !! Please help .it also takes 100 to 200 kicks to start the motor. Every one else is happy that theirs goes 55mph,and I know mine will but this is rediculous ! auggie

What specs did you use on your valve adjustment?

Geez, 200 kicks. That's a lot. Has it always had this problem? It sounds like you may need to adjust the mixture screw in the carburetor. Mine was not adjusted properly when I got it it had hardly any power and bogged if I gave it more than 1/2 throttle. Here's what you do:
1. Turn the mixture screw all the way in 2. Start the engine and let it warm up 3. Adjust the idle screw to get a good idle speed 4. adjust the mixture screw in or out to get the highest engine speed 5. Re-adjust the idle screw to get proper idle speed 6. Turn the idle screw in until the engine speed drops just slightly 7. Turn the idle screw counterclockwise 1/4 turn
You should check the valve clearance too, it's easiest to get a feeler gauge from dratv.com that's specifically designed for this.
Don't worry, you'll get it running right. RCMoto doesn't always adjust their bikes properly before they leave the dealer. The good news is, making the adjustments is pretty easy and because these engines are very common, it's pretty easy to get parts and help from lots of sources.
Oh, one other thing--change your spark plug. The Chinese plugs they come with aren't that great.

X94cherry...I have had the same problem with my bike as well. It is just plain hell to start especially if it has been sitting awhile. In your message regarding how to set the correct fuel air mix. Didn't you mean to adjust the mixture screw and not the idle screw in your las two steps?

Oops, yes, the mixture screw. Mine was never that hard to start, but it did take several kicks when it was new, and then it was touchy until it warmed up. I'm not sure what would cause that. Maybe the valve clearances--mine were about right when I got the bike, maybe if they're off it's lowering your compression or something. You are getting good fuel flow and using the choke, right?
Mine ran fine after the mixture screw was adjusted, used to take 3-5 kicks to start, but starts on the first or second kick now that it's broken in.

Sorry, didn't see your message until today. I have a Redcat 50cc ATV manual that has what I believe to be the same engine. It says 0.004 gap setting for the intake and 0.006 gap for the exhaust. Both of our bikes are running just great at these settings.

The engines are clones of the Honda XR. Clymer manual M319, Honda XR50 & XR70 Valve clearance: Intake and Exhaust 0.03-0.07 mm (0.0012-0.0028 in.) Honda dealers and DrATV sell a special feeler gauge that is bent just for these valves and has gauges 0.05 & 0.08 mm (0.002 & 0.003 in.) dratv.stores.yahoo.net/0fega9.html
