My passport drains the battery after 120miles or 1 week. I orginally thought that it was the OEM battery not being able to hold a charge, so i bought a new one.
But the battery still goes dead after about a week. I also noticed that my brake light is out.
Where do I start?

Replace the tail light, it may be shorted. Check the alternator output with a volt meter or battery tester. Jim.

I checked the alternator, its fine.
Replacing the tail light is not an option. RC moto has or parts. Even if they did it would be a hassle to get. When I say my brake light is out, I'm assuming it worked/lit up before. Do you know it the passport's rear light lit up when braking (either hand or foot brake)?

I am not familiar with your specific bike but your owners manual should identify which lights are turn, brake and tail. The brake light should light with either foot or hand lever. Pull the bulb that is not working and take to any auto parts store. They should be able to sell you a bulb. bulbs are mostly generic. Jim.

You may have a short in the wiring to the tail/brake light. That would explain your battery draining. It should be a dual filament bulb. Does it come on when the bike is operating? What happens when you press the brake pedal or pull the front brake lever? Follow the wire from the tail light assembly back to main wiring harness. My guess is that you have a short somewhere in the wire. If it was just a blown bulb, that wouldn't drain the battery.

Hey AE. I have had blown bulbs short internally. Just removing the bulb would also eliminate the bulb as a suspect. Not knowing if he can use a multimeter or trace wiring makes it tough for me help him trouble shoot electrical problems. Jim.

Jim - True enough. Although he said, "I checked the alternator, its fine". So I believe he must be using some sort of meter. I've had blown bulbs also short internally, but not for long. I'm betting on a frayed wire shorting to the frame.
Hey gman - how about an update? Have you gotten anywhere on it yet?
