I bought a couple of 110cc Loncin engines off eBay and installed them in our Top Tank GL's. The engines came complete with new intake manifold, carb, CDI unit, and coil. I, also, installed small K&N type pod air filters to them. They make a cool snorting sound when you give it the gas.
Everything pretty much bolted into place with a couple of exceptions:
1. The right side engine case is wider on the Loncin, so I had to take the footpeg bracket down to a local welder for modification.
2. I spliced the 4 pin connector from the stock engine charging circuit to the 4 wires on the Loncin. Color coding was identical, so it was easy.
3. I removed the fender from the front wheel since the new engine's head extends out quite a bit further and hit the fender when braking. I will eventually cut and modify the front fender and re-install, but for now I like the looks.
4. I installed 17 tooth front sprockets on the engine. This required a longer chain, so I installed a new one on my wife's bike. I took a few links from her old chain and lengthened mine.
5. I widened the muffler bracket bolt slot by drilling. This was also due to the head extending further forward.
I'm pleased with the performance, but it could be better. One thing is I still have the stock exhaust on the bike. The new intake manifold and carb is a lot bigger than what was on the stock engine. Not to mention the pod filter allowing it to breathe much more easily. I am considering ordering a S90 exhaust from eBay to see if it makes a difference. That said, I saw an indicated 50mph on flat surface and it was still pulling. I backed off as we are still breaking the engines in.
